My Thoughts on Internet Gaming (thanks to Penny Arcade)

People have told me about this comic, but I'd never actually seen it with my own eyes. I completely and wholeheartedly agree with Gabe's theory, and I would add Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 to the list of evidence. Something about anonymity and people who are basically forced to listen to you makes the great majority of internet gamers become total D-bags, go figure...

  1. There are basically two views on online gaming: the view expressed by that comic, and the view expressed by the people lampooned in said comic. Also, this can be further generalized by saying that people over the age of 15 are the former, and people under the age of 15 are the latter.

Also, on the topic of Penny Arcade; I know you don't have a DS and probably haven't played Professor Layton (shame on you), but this is probably the funniest PA strip I've seen in at least 3 years: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2008/02/13.

  2. I haven't played it, but I had been talking to Rick and knew what it was when I saw the strip. It definitely made me laugh out loud. Though I am also entertained by the recent strip about Patapon inspired murder:

  3. I'm curious how you're in game design school and don't regularly read Penny Arcade. Seems like that would be a requirement.

  4. It should be. Sadly even little things like that seem to fall by the wayside when I am in full work mode. Usually a read a bunch of it in one sitting or people forward me to particularly amusing/interesting material.
